The Internet and Iowa Craft Shows

By Peter Schaub

Out here in the farms of Iowa, time crawls by more slowly than the cities. People go through the same old routines and the same old tasks day by day. While it's fun to live out here in tranquility, it's admittedly a lot more boring.

It doesn't come as a surprise that most of the people I know in these parts get into a variety of hobbies and crafts. I have one friend who bends and shapes wires to create sculptures, while I have a soft spot for woodcarving. My father is proud that I have carried on something that he himself did.

While my father is a bit of an oldie regarding technology, he understands that they have their usefulness. With his help, we were able to get an Internet connection, which allowed me to blog and post entries online continuously. But, an even greater upside to having Internet connection is that it gives me access to a plethora of information and current events.

The Internet is one of the best places to go to if we want to look for craft shows over here in Iowa. A quick search on a search engine brings up a whole lot of links to sites that keep a listing of craft show schedules. Also, get the contact information for the event organizers. The next step we do is to make contact with the organizers and ask about getting a booth of our own.

It is a good opportunity for us to sell off some of the wood-carved items I've done, plus display some of my father's own works alongside. I even persuaded my friend to try it out himself, and he now has his very own booth showcasing his wire and plaster creations close by. It gave us some financial instincts and I know this can be a big help for me in the future.
